Periodontal Disease

Routine visits to your oral health care professional is important. There are several research studies that have demonstrated that periodontal (gum) disease is a potential risk factor for many different diseases. Periodontal disease is very common in adults, about 75 percent of all American adults have some form of periodontal disease. It usually is painless and sometimes sympton free, therefore many people are unaware of the disease. Some warning signs of periodontal disease are: red or swollen gums, receding gums, pus between the gums when pushed on, bad taste in the mouth, persistant bad breath, loose teeth, or a change in the way the teeth fit together when biting.
