Dental Accessories We Love!

If it seems like every time you wander the grocery or drug store aisle of oral care, the latest options are overwhelming, you are not alone. Singing toothbrushes, spinning toothbrushes, power vs. manual toothbrushes... what's best for your teeth? Ever wished you could just ask what toothpaste, mouthwash or floss your dentists prefer? Drs. Chris and Patrice Winterholler have some favorites to share with you! (We aren't paid endorsers of any of these products!)

Both of our dentists are fans of Listerine mouthwash. Dr. Patrice loves the orange flavor. Listerine Zero is a new product that is great for our patients that don't like the burn that Listerine normally gives. It doesn't have the alcohol of regular Listerine, but you still get the same advantages.

Dr. Patrice is a big fan of Sonicare toothbrushes. ("Like" us on Facebook as we often have Sonicare giveaways).
Dr. Patrice loves the Glide floss because it is thick and minty. Dr. Chris likes to joke that you only need to floss the teeth you want to keep. In seriousness, they both love the Waterpic for getting in between your teeth. Dr. Chris says regular visits to your hygienist make all the difference with flossing issues.
Dr. Patrice recommends Colgate Total toothpaste. Dr. Chris is a fan of Pepsodent for the low cost and it is still effective. Cloysis is also a wonderful toothpaste or rinse, but you can only buy it at Walgreen's or our office. We also recommend MI paste as a fluoride to all our patients in ortho or who take lots of medications and have dry mouth. MI is also only sold in our office.

We cannot underestimate the value of routine cleanings to your teeth. Winterholler Dentistry can also protect your teeth with sealants, digital X-rays and more. Call us or schedule online today!

Gum Disease and Alzheimer’s Link

World Alzheimer's Day is Sept. 21 and we'd like to take this opportunity to remind you how taking care of your gums can help prevent Alzheimer's.

Scientists reported in 2010 that gum inflammation increases the risk of cognitive dysfunction associated with Alzheimer's. Gum inflammation does impact brain inflammation, researchers found.

Winterholler Dentistry aims to protect your overall health, not just fill cavities or whiten teeth. With less gum disease, we can help you bring down the number of Americans afflicted with Alzheimer's.

Brush and floss regularly to keep gum inflammation down. Come see us for regular check-ups to keep periodontal disease at bay.

Schedule an appointment with us today online or call us at 800-750-6054.

Wanting to Be Pregnant? See Your Dentist!

Germs and viruses can cause other medical problems, such as infertility and maybe even premature birth, according to a recent article in the East Valley Tribune. A prenatal checkup with your dentist can make all the difference.

Gum disease can make it harder to get pregnant, similar to how obesity can  be an obstacle.

Australian scientists found in a study that women with gum disease took seven months to get pregnant on average, two months longer than women with good oral health.

Women should include dental checkups in their prenatal care plan. The impact can help improve their health and the health of their baby.

Winterholler Dentistry recommends you visit your dentist for regular checkups to prevent periodontal disease and avoid other risk factors such as smoking, stress, poor nutrition, diabetes and more. Schedule a visit today!

Oral Hygiene Can Save Your Life!

Dr. Oz reports that dodging the dentist can put your life at risk. A growing body of research shows your oral health can help prevent heart disease, stroke, memory loss and more. Your mouth may even help in early detection of diabetes. Of all the efforts you make to keep healthy, from exercise to eating right, maintaining good oral health is really one of the easiest.

Besides regular visits to your dentist, brushing and flossing, what do you need to do? Know the signs of periodontal disease. Keeping your immune system healthy starts with good oral health. Discuss any warning signs you may see with Winterholler Dentistry. Get regular cleanings from us to prevent disease elsewhere in your body.

Winterholler Dentistry will also run an oral cancer screening at all of your check-ups. Come visit us today!

Radiation, X-Rays & Your Health

There are lots of rumors flying around about radiation, so we thought we'd show you this chart and tell you the facts. Your risk in radiation exposure is higher from an airplane trip or a chest CT scan than a typical visit to your dentist.

We are looking out for you and your health by bringing you digital and 3D X-rays. Not only does this make for more accurate dentistry, but also reduces your exposure to radiation. With the latest technology available, we aim to save you time and money - and protect your health.
